STORYTELLER

CJ is a dynamic and charismatic performer whose storytelling performances use song, actions, gestures, call and response, characterisation, voice, comedy, improvisation and movement to engage and inspire children (and adults!) of all ages.
CJ has been sharing stories and delighting audiences for over fifteen years. They have performed for high profile organisations such as the BBC, the British Museum, the British Film Institute, Somerset House, the High Commission of India and the Barbican Centre, as well as sharing stories in a wide range of community, education and outreach settings: schools, colleges theatres, churches, mosques, temples, refugee centres, hospitals, pupil referral units, libraries and museums
CJ is incredibly passionate about storytelling work in community and outreach settings and makes a conscious commitment to developing projects with under-represented and disadvantaged groups. CJ has written and directed storytelling theatre projects and performances for children in underprivileged areas in London (Greenwich and Lewisham Young People’s Theatre, Half Moon Young People’s Theatre), with vulnerable teenagers and young adults (REWRITE, Southwark Theatre Education Partnership), young refugees and asylum seekers (Refugee Youth, Migrants Organise) and cross-generational community projects (BBC Our Sound with the BBC Concert Orchestra). In India CJ has devised performances with children from marginalised rural communities (through ongoing relationships with the Kattaikkuttu Gurukulam), as well as children living in the seaside slums of Chennai (Pudiyador).
CJ is currently performing and running storytelling training across London, England and the world.

International Storyteller
CJ has a world-renowned international career performing and running training across the world. To date, CJ has been booked for storytelling in the UK, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Italy, Taiwan, Romania, South Korea and the United States of America.
2023/2024 will see CJ take to skies again with international shows in Denmark, Sweden and The Netherlands.

PhD Researcher
CJ is currently undertaking a fully funded PhD research project at Queen Mary’s University of London.
Their research explores gender diversity, storytelling and early years education and develops a practical storytelling approach that better supports diverse gender expressions and identities.
CJ’s PhD project will run 2019 - 2026 with funding from the Arts and Humanities Research Council UK.

CJ is in the final editing stages of their first one person autobiographical show entitled My Little Darling.
Written for adult audiences, the life-affirming show explores gender, class and multiple childhoods, through early 90’s nostalgia. Think Stars in Their Eyes, Pic ‘n’ Mix sweets and a big hug from your Nan.
My Little Darling is set to be shared to the public in late 2023.
